Brown Conba Sedge

Fly: Alice Conba, Photograph: Hans Weilenmann

Hook: TMC 102Y #12-16
Thread: black
Rib: Fine gold wire
Body hackle: Whiting grizzly hackle dyed red brown
Body: 6-7 strands Golden Pheasant centre tail fibers
Wing: 6-7 strands Golden Pheasant centre tail fibers
Hackle: Whiting grizzly hackle dyed red brown

Note: The story behind this is as follows; I could not buy Speckled hen wing quills anymore so decided to use Cock Pheasant centre tail fibres instead. I showed the fly to Hans de Groot, he looked and said....Alice, it's too untidy, it will never work' . I went ahead anyway and in that first year I made 800 of them and sold the lot. I kept them in a large coffee jar;-) I haven't stopped making them since....1992 ....and make them in ten different body colours.
