This fly, originated in 1983, has been one of my staple patterns for use on a floating-line for summer-run steelhead. I vary the size depending on water clarity, temperature and velocity. The clearer and warmer the water, the smaller the size I fish. It has done me well on about ten or so rivers including the Dean, Thompson, Campbell, Morice, Methow and Thompson. As well, it has proven useful when used in the right water conditions for rainbows and cutthroat and on Harrys River in Newfoundland for Atlantic salmon.
