Wally Wing Extended Body PMD Dun

Fly: Eric Austin, Photograph: Hans Weilenmann

Hook: Standard Dry Fly, #18, bent upward at a 45 degree angle at the thorax
Thread: Yellow 8/0 or finer
Tail and extended body: Small, curved, Mallard Flank feather, dyed yellow, barbs pulled back to form extension, “V” clipped out of center of tip to form tails
Wing: One large Mallard flank feather, split into two wings using the Wally Wing technique
Thorax: PMD Superfine dubbing
Hackle: Dun

Note: The hackle is tied in sort of a ½ thorax style, on a slant, from behind wing on top, to in front of wing on bottom. Two turns at most, ending at eye, where the hackle is tied off. Clip a “V” out of the bottom of the hackle. The hackle is mostly there to get the proper imprint. This fly floats surprisingly well, with its tail off the water.
