Hendrickson Thorax Dun Mayfly

Fly: Frank Thompson, Originator: Vince Marinaro, Photograph: Hans Weilenmann

Hook: Partridge, E1A, TMC 100 #14 or 16
Thread: Flymaster, 6/0, light brown
Wing: Furnace cock hackle, dark dun section of large neck hackle, cut to shape with toe nail clippers, wing cutters, wing burners, etc., tied in about mid shank
Tail: Medium dun spade cock hackle
Body: Pink vixen fox fur
Hackle: Medium dun cock hackle, (1) hackle the size for the hook size and (1) hackle one size larger than normal for hook size. From the side view the hackle, makes an X when tied in. Tie the large hackle in on top behind the wings and small hackle on top in front of wings. Wrap the large hackle from rear top to front under wing, try to get three complete turns. Wrap the small hackle from top front to bottom under wing and try to get three complete turns again.
Note: Gave a fly fisherman one of Vince’s flies and the next I saw him he told me it was the greatest dry fly he had ever fished. I think he said he took close to 24 trout with the one fly.
