Tail/body/thorax/wingcase:

Pheasant Tail Nymph

Fly: Gustav Fröléen, Photograph: Hans Weilenmann

Hook: TMC 3769 #14
'Thread': Thin copper wire
4 long fibers from the pheasant cocks tail feather. Add or take a few if the fly is #12 and larger or #16 and smaller
Note: This is how the originator Frank Sawyer tied his Pheasant tail nymphs. The copper wire added a little weight and most importantly some sparkle to the fly.

Hints:
* An oval foundation of copper wire should be wound at the thorax area, to fill it out.
* There are three layers of fibers for the wingcase, making the thorax a little more substantial.
* The fly is finished by making a single wrap of wire across the thorax towards the eye, where it is broken off with a half hitch.
* I recommend using small amounts of superglue for reinforcing the fly. One very small layer on the shank prior to winding the body/thorax and one layer on the wire when wound across the thorax for the finishing move.
