Tandem Pike Fly

Fly: Henk Verhaar, Photograph: Hans Weilenmann

Trailer hook: TMC 700, size 1/0
Front hook: VMC, size 6/0
Thread: flat waxed nylon
Connection: Cortland 30 lbs braided nylon
Tail: saddle hackles
Body: Flexibody
Buck tail spreader: dense chenille
Hair hackles collars: buck tail in several flashy colours, tied in the round
Head: crystal chenille
Note: Attach the braided nylon to the trailer hook, along the entire length of the shank (on the underside), and exiting through the (down) eye. Coat liberally with flexament. Dress the trailer hook with tail, body, spreader chenille (tied in a large ball) and one buck tail wing. Attach the braid on top of the front hook, running the entire length of the shank, so that the trailer rides point up. Coat with flexament and dress the front hook, with spreader, rear wing, body, optional spreader, front wing, and head. Wrap the chenille while stroking back the fibers with every turn, to get a nice, dence head.
