Andy’s Candy

Originator: Andy Kim, Fly: John Gordon, Photograph: Hans Weilenmann

Hook: Tiemco 101 (size #24)
Thread: 8/0 Black Uni-thread
Hackle: Grizzly Hackle

Note: This pattern is just a Griffith’s Gnat without the peacock herl body. Also tie this pattern using gray 8/0 tying thread. One of my favorite dry fly patterns when finicky fish are taking midges off the surface.

Tying instructions
  1. Start thread just behind hook eye and lay a thread base all the way to the hook bend.

  2. Tie in the grizzly hackle. Wrap thread back to just behind the hook eye and let bobbin hang.

  3. Wrap the grizzly hackle and tie off at the eye.

  4. Whip finish and coat with head cement.
