CDC Wing RS2

Fly: John Gordon, Photograph: Hans Weilenmann

Hook: Tiemco 200R (size #20)
Thread: 6/0 Grey Uni-thread
Tail: Dark Dun Microfibetts, split
Abdomen: Tying thread
Wing: Med Dun CDC oiler puffs
Thorax: Tying thread

Note: Variation on the Rim Chung RS2 pattern. An excellent Baetis emerger pattern. Also tie this pattern in olive. Tying instructions
  1. Start thread and wrap back to just above the hook barb. Leave the tag end of the thread. We will cut this later.

  2. Create a small thread ball on the shank just above the barb.

  3. Tie in and split two microfibetts. The thread ball will help elevate the tailing fibers. Use the tag end of the thread to split the microfibetts. Pull this tag end over, Tie down and trim.

  4. Wrap thread back towards the eye building up a slim body with the thread.

  5. Tie in one CDC puff almost like a post. Create a head.

  6. Trim the CDC. Keep the wing length on the long side, about one body length.
