Copper Top Emerger

Hook: Tiemco 900BL (size #18-20)
Thread: 8/0 Uni-thread. (Olive Dun)
Tail: Crinkled Zelon (Color-Pheasant Tail)
Abdomen: Pheasant Tail feather fibers
Rib: Copper wire (Small)
Back: Crinkled Zelon (Color-Pheasant Tail)
Thorax: Olive silk dubbing
Under wing: Dun gray Darlon
Over wing: CDC Puff (Color-Med Dun or BWO)
Head: Olive silk dubbing

Note: Based on Mike Lawson’s PT Emerger. Tying instructions
  1. Tie in 3-4 pheasant tail feather fibers by the tips and fine copper wire.

  2. Wrap the pheasant tail fibers to mid hook shank.

  3. Attach Zelon fibers over top of the hook shank and trim front portion.

  4. Pull the Zelon over the back of the abdomen and secure by counter-wrapping the wire ribbing.

  5. Pull Zelon tail to stretch and cut at about 30-degree angle with the length about ¾ of the hook.

  6. Dub a thorax.

  7. After attaching the Dar-lon under wing to the top of the hook, trim the front stubs and cut the back at a 30-degree angle over the hook point.

  8. Attach CDC as an over wing the same length as the under wing. Trim butts.

  9. Secure materials with head cement.

  10. Dub the head and whip finish.
