Fly: John Gordon, Photograph: Hans Weilenmann

Hook: Daiichi 1270 or Tiemco 200R (size #20-22)
Thread: UTC 70 (Red)
Body: Red Vinyl Rib UTC (small)

Tying instructions
  1. Debarb and place bead on hook.

  2. Start thread and work back to bend of hook. Let bobbin hang.

  3. Cut a piece of red vinyl rib. With one end being cut at a sharp angle. This will be the end we start with. Tie this in above the hook bend.

  4. Having cut the V-rib at an angle will allow us to begin wrapping the V-rib forward without creating any lumps or bumps. We want a smooth flat and segmented appreance. Do not over lap your wraps. You can pull and stretch this material as you wrap it. To give a thinner appearance. Wrap up to the head and tie off.

  5. Pull up on the tag end and cut flush. By pulling up on the V-rib it will snap back making a clean appearance with the rest of the body.

  6. Whip finish and head cement.
