Two incompatible characteristics are essential for a good Missouri River midge dry fly. Fish will readily take an imitation that rides low in the film. But, if the fly is not visible, I don't get many hook ups with small flies. The closed cell foam post on this pattern forces the hook into a vertical position, putting the imitation in the zone where the fish are looking and leaving something of the surface for the angler to see.
