Jax Murray

Jack [Jax. a.k.a. One Cast.] Murray. Seventy-year Old Buck Rat going on eighteen. Dry Fly Nut. Still Upright Breathing and Fly-fishing. Otherwise Retired. Residing in Tauranga in The Bay Of Plenty New Zealand North Island.

Started tying flies, Forty-five years ago while living in Durban and Fly-fishing in the Himeville Underberg region of Natal in South Africa and I have enjoyed many years of tying flies tailored to catch Trout rather than Fly-fishers ever since.

Some of the flies I tie I believe are the product of my own ideas mixed with old established patterns giving a different slant to the fly in my vise. I am a firm believer in the K.I.S.S. method of tying and, that a fly should be “built” to survive numerous encounters with trout and not fall apart after only one trout has sampled it.

In the early days it was flies being prone to unraveling and falling to bits out on the river that steered me into the magical realm of fly tying and for that I thank my lucky stars.

Fly Tying is a handy string to have for ones bow, as, as the ravages of time wreak havoc with my health and take their toll. The day will dawn when I will reluctantly hang up my rod.

When that day comes for me I know. That being able to continue in the field by tying flies will be a Godsend and allow me to keep in touch with some good friends and in turn retain my sanity. Jax.
