Generic Dun imitation

Fly: Lars Christian Benten, Photograph: Hans Weilenmann

Hook: TMC 900BL # 16
Thread: Light Olive UNI 8/0
Tail: Dark Dun cock hackle fibers
Abdomen: Goose Biot, olive, or olive dubbing (shown fly with biot)
Wing: Dun poly yarn, post
Thorax: Olive dubbing (shown fly is Flyrite # 10, BWO)
Hackle: Dark Dun cock hackle (genetic), tied parachute
Note: This fly I tie on sixes from 12-20 and use throughout the season, but mostly in May, where a great number of different species hatch and it’s rarely necessary to imitate them specifically. I tie them in a darker olive as well.
