Olav Berg

My name is Olav Berg, born in 1984 and I live in Hønefoss about a 45 minute drive from the capitol of Norway, Oslo.

I have been flyfishing and flytying for about three years and I am interested in all types of fish, flies and fishing, but I have a very strong interest for old patterns for both trout and salmon. I love to read the books of T.E. Pritt and W.C. Stewart, even though they are more than 100 years old they are still very readable and still as relevant for todays flyfishermen and flytiers as it was back then. Stewart is clearly a man who has an opinion on EVERYTHING! :)

I have also bumped into foam as a tying material as you can see in my foam sedge, and the nice thing about it is that you can fish it any way you like. Easy to tie and it floats all day. My favourite type of fishing is with my #2 rod in small streams where the big fish weighs about a pound, walking through dense bushes and finding your own private spot with no sound but the running water and birds. Just lovely!

I also fish in the sea for sea-trout, garfish, mackerel, cod and pollock, I usually start the fishing season with sea-trout fishing when the nereids spawn around easter. It is usually just a big relief to finally get to throw some line after the long winter months.

Salmon I have yet to experience, and I am looking forward to it :)
