Parachute Caddis

Fly: Peter Frailey, Photograph: Hans Weilenmann

Hook: Dry fly, sizes 12 to 18
Thread: Brown
Body: Tan dubbing (green or brown dubbing will also nicely match the color of the wing)
Downwing: Back feather from a ringneck pheasant, colored/mottled variably with metallic green, tan, and brown
Wing post: Fluorescent chartreuse poly-yarn (Para-Post brand yarn is used in this example)
Hackle: Ginger, tied parachute style, with V-shape (when viewed from above) cut out of the front

Note: On a ringneck pheasant skin, the feather used for the wing is found above the metallic green “rump” feathers (as are used in tying a Carey Special) and below the brown and tan “church window” feathers (sometimes used for a hopper wing).
