Woodchuck Special

Fly: Peter Frailey, Photograph: Hans Weilenmann

Hook: 3xl streamer hook, size 6-10
Thread: Yellow Danville 3/0
Weight: 20 wraps of thin lead wire (.015”), optional
Tail: Orange feather fibers
Rib: Copper wire
Wing: Woodchuck fur, including guard hairs and underfur
Collar: Orange hen feather
Note: This is my attractor version of the classic “Llama” streamer. It can be tied as a wet fly, as shown here, or a streamer.

Tip: This sample is tied as a wet fly. For a streamer appearance, use a longer clump of fur with more guard hairs, and a collar with shorter barbs.
