Dirty Duster (clipped)

Fly: Bob Wyatt, Photograph: Hans Weilenmann

Hook: Kamasan B100, or other curved emerge style
Thread: Grey
Abdomen: Hare’s mask fur, or any natural dubbing. Build up slightly at the thorax
Rib: Tying thread tag, counter wound over dubbing
Hackle: badger cock, tied in at eye and wound back through thorax, then wound through itself to eye and tied off

Note: I take the thread back and forth, quickly through the hackle in a cross-wind to reinforce the hackle stem. This adds immeasurably to the durability of this fly, and makes it practically as tough as the DHE. Avoid getting floatant on the abdomen, which must sink.
