Fur Fly (Tony Sloane variant)

Fly: Bob Wyatt, Photograph: Hans Weilenmann

Hook: medium-long shank wet fly hook
Thread: Brown
Tail: clump of fur or peacock herl
Body: A strip of rabbit fur, or soft mobile fur of any kind, folded double over the hook shank and tied in at the head
Eyes (optional): dumb-bell, epoxy, or jungle cock. The original had a head of peacock herl

Note: the fur strip is not wound on to the shank, but folded over it lengthwise. This is a variation, among many, of Tony Sloane’s simple Rabbit Fur Fly. Sloane’s son Rob says the original, or his Modified Fur Fly, similar to the one described, is still the best.
