Partridge & Pheasant Tail Spider

Fly: Steve Williams, Photograph: Hans Weilenmann

Hook: Orvis standard dryfly-#14
Thread: Pearsalls Gossamer silk...Java Brown
Body: 3 or 4 pheasant tail fibers, twisted together with the tying thread and counter wrapped with fine copper wire for strength. The body should begin at a point above the hook point... or no longer than above the barb
Hackle: 1 turn of grey/brown partridge hackle long enough to reach just past the hook bend

This has been my favorite wetfly for many years. As such, it's usually the point fly on my multiple fly rigs when fishing. Good in sizes #12-#16.
