Pattern information

Be sure to brush out the body dubb to make the body "wide." The tail should be splayed, and for heavier water more fibres should be used.

Insects of the family Heptagenia, or Pale Evening Duns, are real clingers, and are therefore not known as a common Trout food. I developed this fly based on some Hepts I had pulled off some rocks before I knew this. The fish didn't care, though, and they took this pattern anyway. I think the slight ambiguity of the profile works in its favour; it is close enough to so many ephemerids that it might be taken for some other form of mayfly nymph. Try it just before the hatch on a wet fly swing and be prepared as the line straightens out downstream.
