This is one of a series of flies originated by T C Kingsmill-Moore some fifty years ago as a top-dropper fly for brown trout in Lough Corrib. It proved to be an exceptional fly for seatrout in lakes in the West of Ireland and today it is first choice for anglers on dull, windy days on the loughs there. Dyed blue guinea fowl may be used as sub for the Blue Jay but isn't as effective.
