Grannom (Caddis)

Fly: Frank Thompson, Originator: Chauncy K. Lively, Photograph: Hans Weilenmann

Hook: Daiichi, 1310, #14-18, 1x short
Thread: Flymaster, 6/0, olive
Body: Muskrat fur dubbing
Wonder wing: Webby cock grizzly hackle
Hackle: 1 grizzly and 1 brown cock hackle, 1 size smaller than normal
Note: Dub the muskrat fur from bend to ¾ of the shank. Take a large pair of neck hackles from bottom of cape, cut and discard the bottom half of hackle. Take about ¼” to 5/16” of barbs at base of stem and stroke backwards. Grab the tips that are stroked backwards and tie in behind the hook eye. Do not tie in the stem, only the tips, leave the tips on for now. Tie the hackles in front of the wings. Now wrap the thread to the bend of hook. Reverse palmer one hackle, one turn in front of wing, then back to bend and tie off and cut off tip of first hackle. Do the same with the second hackle after clipping the tip of the second hackle. Palmer the tying thread through hackle up to the eye and tie off. Cut the tips off of wings. Note: You can probably get 2 or three more sets of wings out of remaining tips.
