Micro-Bead Head

Fly: Jim Cramer, Photograph: Hans Weilenmann

This is a method of tying bead heads on very small hooks without reducing the hooking capacity of the hooks. This is a generic pattern typical of many small nymph patterns popular in the west. A knot is tied in a doubled section of copper wire and both ends are threaded through the large end of a brass bead. The knot is pulled tight and compressed in the bead’s recess. A drop of super glue insures the connection. The tag ends of the copper wire are tied to the hook above the eye and the fly is completed in the normal fashion. Choose the wire diameter to be compatible with the bead size.
