Tying instructions
- Tie in thread start at eye and wrap to bend.
- Tie in red hackle tailing.
- Cut 1 inch of poly yarn for abdomen. Fold in half. Tie in at bend and wrap to mid point.
- Tie in brown dry fly hackle at bend with tip pointing to rear of fly. (Leave it there we will wrap it later).
- Tie in more poly yarn at bend for the body. Wrap about ¾ up the hook. Tie off. (Leave lots of room for wing, legs, and head).
- Palmer wrap the hackle to ¾ up the hook. Tie off.
- With scissors trim the hackle short all the way around the fly.
- Remove section of turkey quill and cut and shape the wing. Tie it in at the ¾ spot.
- Tie in the knotted pheasant tail legs.
- Not necessary but you can add a drop of super glue at this point. To anchor in the wing and legs.
- Stack large clump of deer hair and tie in with points facing the bend. Take 3 lose wraps around the head then spin the deer hair. Take a few more wraps and then pack the hair by pushing it towards the rear of the hook. Repeat this process a couple times until you have worked your way to the eye. Tie off and whip finish.
- Trim head to shape being careful not to cut the legs or the collar (hair points).
