Emerger gills: Oral-B Ultra Floss (Dental floss)
Bead: Glass red colored bead (Midge size)
Thread: 70 UTC (Red)
Rib: Lagartun fine copper wire
Abdomen: Tying thread
Thorax: Tying thread (alternative: Peacock herl)

Note: This can also be tied using black, olive and brown thread for the body. Rojo (row-ho) in Spanish translates to the color “red”. Given for the red bead used in this pattern. Tying instructions
  1. Place red colored bead on hook. Place hook in vice. Move the bead to the bend of the hook.

  2. Start thread at eye and tie in the Oral-B Ultra Floss for the emerger gills. Tie the floss in just behind the eye and let about a ½ inch hang over the hook eye (We will trim this later). Trim the butt end of the dental floss. Whip finish and cut your tying thread.

  3. Bring the bead over the tied in floss and push firmly against the hook eye. Start your tying thread behind the bead.

  4. Tie in the copper wire just behind the bead and wrap back to the bend. Cover wrap the wire and wrap back up to just behind the bead. Let the bobbin hang.

  5. Begin to wrap the copper wire around the hook shank with nice segmented wraps. Tie off behind the bead and trim the copper wire.

  6. Tie in two pieces of peacock herl behind the bead. Make 2 or 3 wraps around the hook.

  7. Tie off, trim the peacock herl, whip finish, and cut tying thread.

  8. Use a bodkin to pick through and fluff out the emerger gills. Cut to length.
