I live in Jönköping, a town on the southern edge of the big lake Vättern
in the South of Sweden, where I work as a schoolteacher. Most of my
fishing is done on Trout Rivers in the nearby area. A lot of these rivers
are fast and turbulent freestone rivers, so they require a specific way of
fishing and fly tying.
My passion for nature began at an early age and I got my first fly rod in
at the age of seven, after a hospital visit. Fly fishing was a mysterious
thing, and I remember my dad saying "Fly fishermen are strange; they can
even tell what insects the fish is eating". So to become a fly fisherman
was something very special to me back then, and I suppose, to some degree,
it still is.
I have always had a strong fascination for the American wet fly tradition
with fly fishers like Liesenring and Hidy as the two most well known
representatives. That is one of the reasons why I like to tie and fish the
flymphs. They are to my mind a marvellous type of flies that fished dry or
wet catch trout all over the world, in all waters.
Even if the traditional soft hackles I fish with do the job most of the
time, I also like to tie flies in a more modern way with modern materials.
These days the idea of sunken spinners takes up most of my time behind the
vice. Spinners and other sunken patterns have opened up a new world of fly
tying to me, both in tying and fishing. I would be grateful to get in
touch with anyone that tie and fish "sunken" patterns, so please contact
me if have any experience with these flies.
