Tying instructions:
- Wrap hook shank with tying thread from eye to start of bend.
- Fold the outside edges of the Raffine in to the centre line to get the right width for the beetle’s wing case.
- Build up a nice fairly fat body with the bugging material. Stop far enough from the eye to allow for three turns of hackle and the head.
- Tie in a brown Cock Hackle and take three or four turns and tie off.
- Pull the Wing case material over the body and keeping the hackle fibres equal on either side tie it off in front of the hackle and half hitch.
- Form a neat head with the tying thread and Whip Finish. Apply head cement.
This little beetle when dressed with a good Dry Fly dressing. Fishes very well on top. The bright colour of the beetle also allows it to be fished just under the surface and still be visible to the angler as the rise to the beetles peters out and the trout start mopping up the drowned beetles.
