Hare's ear dubbing (Xed to split CDC wing into spent pattern) |
Notes:
A very fragile pattern for certain applications and slow water. Not easy to tie but looks nice and is effective. As usual I couldnt leave out the tag!
Tying instructions:
- Take a dense CDC-feather, moisten your fingers with saliva and strip the CDC fibers from butt to top end of the feather: result will be a „CDC-sausage“.
- Tie in „CDC-sausage“ in appropriate length top end first in about the middle of the hook to create the extended body.
- Take two CDC feathers of equal size, align them with the convex side facing down.
- Tie in these feathers with 2 or three relatively loose wraps at about 1/3 from the top end of the feathers (feathers facing towards rear of the hook). Make sure not to catch any CDC fibers.
- Pull both fibers backwards at until 2/3rds down from the top end. Thus a CDC Wing is created.
- Wrap tightly in front of the wing and clip off butt ends of the fibres. Make sure to leave about two hook eye spaces of room behind the hook eye
- Go back with the thread behind the tie in point of the CDC feathers and dub on some dubbing to the thread.
- X-wind the thinly dubbed thread in the middle of the thorax to separate CDC wing and wind towards hook eye (still leaving enough room).
- Finish off by pulling down the two CDC feathers firmly right behind the hook eye and tying off. whip finish. It should look like a wing case from a nymph.
