Dirty Duster (clipped) |
Hook: | Kamasan B100, or other curved emerge style |
Thread: | Grey |
Abdomen: | Hare’s mask fur, or any natural dubbing. Build up slightly at the thorax |
Rib: | Tying thread tag, counter wound over dubbing |
Hackle: | badger cock, tied in at eye and wound back through thorax, then wound through itself to eye and tied off |
Note: I take the thread back and forth, quickly through the hackle in a cross-wind to reinforce the hackle stem. This adds immeasurably to the durability of this fly, and makes it practically as tough as the DHE. Avoid getting floatant on the abdomen, which must sink. |
