Fly: Wayne Luallen, Photographs: Hans Weilenmann

Hook: Daiichi 1310 #14-20
Thread: Gudebrod 8/0 color to match body
Body: Sparse, loose dubbing
Wing: ZingWing marked with felt tip marker
Head: Sparse, loose dubbing

Tying notes:

This is John Betts pattern. The wings are tied in with a single strip tied down with X-wraps, tips out over the hook eye. Next sparse loose dubbing (John used Z-Lon, I used Micro Zelon dubbing on this one) is tied from bend to about 3/4 up to the eye. The loose dubbing allows for air trapping as well as a halo-effect, as John puts it, to the body. It also likely gives an illusion of legs. The wings are then folded back over the body in "tent" fashion and secured. Additional dubbing is placed a the "head" of the fly. Next trim the wing tips to shape and color as needed with a felt tip marker.
